Before you go

  • Bigger loads go across the scales at the Coastal Environmental Partnership’s transfer station in Newport or its Tuscarora landfill, at their rates (cepnc.org).

Convenience centers

  • Carteret County’s 12 convenience sites are paid for by the county’s availability fee, so there’s no charge at the gate. Only Hibbs Road, Otway, and West Firetower Road take mixed recycling; every site takes household trash and bulk items.
  • No contractor or business waste, no box trucks or anything bigger than a pickup, and no hazardous waste. Trailers can be up to 10 feet long, with no more than 2 cubic yards, one load per site a day. Break pallets up and put them in the construction debris container.
