Edgecombe County rules

  • Edgecombe County’s nine convenience sites are for households with a valid solid waste permit, a placard that hangs from the rearview mirror. Homes in unincorporated Edgecombe County and the Town of Leggett that pay the yearly solid waste fee on their tax bill get three by mail; town residents can buy one by paying the fee at the Tax Collections office, and renters work with their landlord or buy replacements ($5, with a lease or utility bill). Current permits run through Feb. 28, 2027.Edgecombe County’s fiscal 2027 fee schedule puts the yearly household solid waste fee at $155 ($62 for households that show they pay for trash pickup); its permit page still says $150.
  • Each household can bring up to one pickup load (4 cubic yards) of household garbage a week and one of yard waste (limbs up to 6 inches across and 4 feet long), plus construction debris that fits in a 50-gallon trash can. There’s no charge at the sites for garbage, furniture and other brown goods, appliances, or yard waste.
