What it takes

Johnston County’s other 11 convenience centers take the same items. The Johnston County Landfill takes brush and construction debris.

Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.

Johnston County rules

  • The convenience centers are for Johnston County households only, with no business or out-of-county waste. Each household can bring one half-ton pickup load and up to three bulky items, like a couch or a mattress, a week.
  • No dump trailers or trailers over 8 feet long at the centers; big trailer loads go to the landfill. Unload your own trash, and wait your turn in line.
  • The centers don’t take yard waste, construction debris, propane tanks, car parts, dirt, or sand. Those go to the landfill, which charges by the ton.
  • Breaking the center rules more than once brings mailed fines: $100, then $200, then $400.
  • Secure and cover every load so nothing litters the road.
