What it takes

Mecklenburg County’s other three multipurpose centers take the same items.

Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.

Mecklenburg County rules

  • Show a blue entry sticker at the full-service centers. It’s free for Mecklenburg County residents at any center’s fee booth; bring your driver’s license or other proof you live in the county. People from outside the county can buy a yearly sticker.
  • Residents can drop off up to 5 bags of household trash a day for free. More than that, or anything from a business, is charged at the fee booth.
  • Bulky waste, construction debris, and yard waste have fees. The booths take debit and credit cards (no American Express), not cash or checks, and a business card or vehicle pays the business rate. Separate your load before you come: mixed loads pay the construction debris rate.
  • Trailers over 8 feet long are weighed or measured for the fee. Hickory Grove and North Mecklenburg take trailers up to 12 feet, Compost Central up to 16 feet, and the Foxhole Landfill anything longer.
