What it takes
Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.
Greene County rules
- Every convenience center takes household trash and recycles plastic, cardboard, newspaper, aluminum cans, glass, batteries, and metal. Each also takes household furnishings such as old tables, couches, and mattresses, used computers and monitors, and 4 used tires a year. All but Debusk list used motor oil. None take brush, tree limbs, lumber, or construction materials.
- The county rents open-top containers (15, 20, 30, and 40 yards) by the month to individuals and businesses, and a 6-yard container by the week for $200, which covers 1 ton; each ton over is $65. Call 423-798-1794. Rentals and tires are paid by check or money order, not cash.
