What it takes
It’s one of eight Hawkins County convenience centers that take appliances, used motor oil, and some batteries. The Hawkins County Recycling Center takes tires.
Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.
Hawkins County rules
- Only solid waste generated in Hawkins County is accepted. No business waste, liquids other than motor oil and transmission fluid, hazardous or medical waste, animal carcasses, grass, or brush.
- Hawkins County residents can bring half a pickup load a day. Large loads, construction debris, brush, and other bulky material may be turned away and sent to the landfill.
- You unload your own vehicle. Leaving trash outside a locked gate breaks the state litter law and can bring a $500 fine and days of picking up litter along highways.
- Every location but Lakemont also takes recyclables, including car batteries, aluminum, plastic jugs and bottles, newspapers, magazines, cardboard, used motor oil, appliances, and most metals. Lakemont takes household trash only.
- Items the convenience centers don’t take can go to the Republic Landfill on Carter’s Valley Road. Call 423-357-6777.
