What it takes

It’s the only place in Shelby County that takes some paint, some electronics, and household hazardous waste. The Shelby County Waste Tire Collection Site takes tires.

Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.

Shelby County rules

  • City of Memphis solid waste customers can also take up to one truckload of non-hazardous waste a month to a landfill. The city’s page links to Republic Services’ list of landfills for finding the closest one.
  • City of Memphis residents can use three recycling convenience centers for plastic bottles and jugs, paper, glass, cartons, and cans, but not plastic bags, cardboard, or paint: downtown on Mud Island Drive (the north entrance of Mud Island Park), in Cordova near the Agricenter (about 300 yards from Germantown Parkway South), and at the Hickory Hill Community Center.
