What it takes
It’s the only place in Citrus County that takes tires, appliances, mattresses, paint, electronics, brush, construction debris, used motor oil, batteries, and household hazardous waste.
Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.
Citrus County rules
- Since Oct. 1, 2026, residents pay a $6 transaction fee for up to five 30-gallon bags or cans of trash, $1 more for each bag up to nine, or up to eight bags of yard waste. Bigger loads are weighed: $49 a ton for trash, $37 for yard waste, $88 for mixed loads, and $149 for construction debris, concrete, boats, and trailers, plus the $6 fee. Clean recyclables are free. Loads paid with a business check or card pay business rates.
- Every load must be covered with a tarp or cargo net; an uncovered or loose load costs $10 plus $10 a ton.
- The single-stream recycling area keeps the landfill’s hours and has its own entrance, so you don’t go through the main gate. It takes paper, cardboard, cartons, plastics 1 to 7, and steel and aluminum containers, loose and clean; no glass, Styrofoam, or plastic bags.
- Citrus County doesn’t provide residential garbage pickup; households hire a private company.
