What it takes
It’s one of three Leon County convenience centers that take paint, electronics, used motor oil, and batteries. The Leon County Hazardous Waste Center and the Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Site take household hazardous waste.
Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.
Leon County rules
- The Rural Waste Service Centers, which include the drop-off at the Solid Waste Management Facility, are for residents of unincorporated Leon County, full or part time. Bring a government ID with an unincorporated address, or an ID and a utility bill, tax document, or lease. Each customer gets one free load a day, about a level pickup bed (a trailer up to 8 by 6 by 2 feet), separated into garbage, yard debris, small household items, bulky items, recycling, and hazardous waste. Commercial loads aren’t allowed, even from a home; extra loads are sent to Marpan.
- At the Solid Waste Management Facility, City of Tallahassee residents and businesses pay $50.18 a ton for yard debris, and tires past the first four free are $180 a ton ($500 for oversized ones). City residents can’t bring household garbage, bulky items, or recycling there; the county sends them to Marpan Recycling, 6020 Woodville Highway (850-216-1006).
- Homes outside Tallahassee city limits can subscribe to Waste Pro’s curbside service (850-606-1899): weekly garbage, recycling, and yard debris, and up to 2 cubic yards of bulky items a week set at the curb, with no need to call ahead. City of Tallahassee customers use the city’s solid waste service (850-891-4968).
