What it takes
It’s one of seven Miami-Dade County convenience centers that take used motor oil. It’s one of eight Miami-Dade County convenience centers that take electronics. The West Dade Home Chemical Collection Center and the South Dade Home Chemical Collection Center take paint, some batteries, and household hazardous waste.
Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.
Miami-Dade County rules
- Only households that pay Miami-Dade’s residential waste fee can use the trash and recycling centers: unincorporated Miami-Dade and Aventura, Cutler Bay, Doral, Miami Gardens, Miami Lakes, Opa-locka, Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest, Sunny Isles Beach, and Sweetwater. The attendant scans your Florida driver’s license or ID to match your address; if it doesn’t match, fill out the county’s TRC access form.
- The centers take household trash, yard cuttings, and up to 3 cubic yards of construction debris per customer per day (a pile no bigger than six 96-gallon carts), but no food or kitchen garbage. Vans over 11,000 pounds, pickups over 15,000 pounds, and trailers bigger than 10 by 6 by 6 feet can’t use them; those loads can go to the North Dade or South Dade landfill for the per-ton fee.
- Households on county waste service get two bulky waste pickups a year, up to 25 cubic yards each, paid for by the yearly waste fee. Book online or through 311 first, then set the pile out no more than 3 days before the appointment.
