What to do with tires, mattresses, paint, and more

Before you go

  • Curbside customers can set couches, mattresses, and other household furniture at the curb next to their regular garbage, and schedule an appliance pickup with the Solid Waste Division (904-827-6980). Tires, construction debris, and household hazardous waste aren’t collected at the curb.

Transfer stations

  • The transfer stations take household garbage, hazardous waste, and appliances. Their posted fees: $67.26 a ton for commercial waste and pressure-treated wood, $2.75 a tire for 10 or fewer ($250 a ton for more), $1 for a 2- to 4-foot fluorescent bulb and $2 for a 6- to 8-foot one, and $4 a gallon for latex paint or $6 for oil-based paint. Cash or check only.
  • Both transfer stations have a cardboard recycling drop-off for flattened boxes. It takes no other recyclables.
