Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.
Clarke County rules
- CHaRM charges $3 a trip for Athens-Clarke County residents and businesses and $8 for others, plus fees for some items. It takes checks and major credit cards (no American Express), not cash, and no gasoline or fuels. Residents need no appointment.
- Recycling drop-off sites for loose, unbagged single-stream recyclables are open around the clock at Winterville (126 Harris Lane, behind the fire department maintenance building), Jail Road (3035 Jail Road, past the tag office), Fire Station 2 (265 Cleveland Road), Fire Station 9 (1626 Danielsville Road), Fleet Management (225 Newton Bridge Road), and Fire Station 8 (3955 Jefferson Road). The landfill and CHaRM take them during their hours.
- Athens-Clarke County’s garbage customers can have up to five bulky items (furniture, mattresses, appliances, large electronics) picked up at the curb four times a year at no charge; request a date online or at 706-613-3501, option 7.
