Statewide rules
- Scrap tires are banned from Georgia landfills. Without a permit, you can keep up to 25 scrap tires and haul up to 10 at a time. A $1 fee on every new tire sold pays for tire cleanup and recycling, and many cities and counties hold scrap tire collection days with state grants.
- Georgia has few places that take household hazardous waste. State and federal law let you put it in your household trash once it's solid, since garbage trucks can't take liquids: the state suggests using up or giving away leftovers, and drying out paint and other liquids with cat litter first. CHaRM in Atlanta and Athens takes many hazardous items for a fee, and some counties hold one-day collections.
