What it takes

Newton County’s other six convenience centers take the same items. The Newton County Landfill takes tires, paint, and electronics.

Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.

Newton County rules

  • Newton County’s only trash service is its seven convenience centers, which need a vehicle hang tag: $185 for July 1 to June 30, for residents only, bought online, by mail, or at the hang tag office (8134 Geiger Street NW, Suite 7, Covington; 770-243-8613) with an application, driver’s license, and proof of residency. No business waste.
  • Each household may bring up to ten 32-gallon bags of trash a week and bulky items that fit in a pickup bed (trailers up to 5 by 6 feet, loaded no more than 2 feet high), including limbs under 6 inches across and 6 feet long. Once a month, one large item such as a mattress, box spring, sofa, or chair. Bigger loads go to the landfill, which doesn’t take the hang tag: $30 for the first 900 pounds, then $66 a ton.
  • The centers don’t take paint, batteries, oil, large tree debris, business waste, tires, animal carcasses, or hazardous chemicals.
