What it takes

It’s the only place in Oconee County that takes tires, appliances, mattresses, and brush. It’s one of two Oconee County convenience centers that take used motor oil.

Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.

Oconee County rules

  • Oconee County’s four Waste & Recycling Sites are for county residents’ household waste and recycling, with no commercial or business use. Show the attendant your vehicle registration or driver’s license; newcomers can also show a utility bill in the same name.
  • Household garbage goes in the county’s blue Pay-As-You-Throw bags ($2.50 for 33 gallons), sold at every site and at area grocery and convenience stores. Recycling is free. Everything else goes only to the Hwy 441 site: bulky items such as furniture $25 each, and loads too big for a bag in a roll-off at $65 a ton ($20 minimum). The sites take checks, and Hwy 441 also cards; no cash.
  • Oconee County doesn’t pick up trash or leaves and limbs. In Watkinsville or Bogart, ask city hall about pickup: Watkinsville 706-769-5161, Bogart 770-725-7386.
