What it takes

The Buncombe County Landfill takes some paint, electronics, brush, construction debris, used motor oil, and some household hazardous waste.

Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.

Buncombe County rules

  • Residents pay $2 for each 33-gallon bag of household trash ($1 for a smaller bag). At the landfill, pickups, vans, and small trailers pay $53.50 a ton ($10 minimum); at the transfer station, loads under 380 pounds have a $12 minimum.
  • Both take cash, checks, and Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover cards, but not tap to pay.
  • Cover and secure every load; the county may enforce penalties for unsecured loads.
