Convenience centers are what most people call the dump. This page covers 15 convenience centers, the Ann Street Landfill, and the Wilkes Road Compost Facility. Each one’s hours are posted below, with the rules that apply.

What to do with tires, mattresses, paint, and more

Before you go

  • Plan to be unloaded and out by closing time. Once the gate is closed, no one gets in, and anyone who drives around it can’t unload.

Convenience centers

  • Container sites are for Cumberland County homeowners only, not commercial or permitted haulers. The $130 yearly Household User Fee on your property tax bill covers up to 4 cubic yards a week (one level pickup load) of household garbage and yard waste.
  • Container sites don’t take furniture, mattresses, construction debris, hazardous waste, fluorescent bulbs, gas cylinders, pallets, dead animals, or burnt debris.

Landfills

  • The landfill lets no one in before 6:30 a.m. on weekdays or in the 30 minutes before closing, by the scale house clock.
  • At the Ann Street Landfill, a car, SUV, van, or pickup without a trailer pays a flat $20 a trip for chargeable debris; otherwise trash and construction debris are $46 a ton. It takes cash, checks, and credit and debit cards, but not American Express.
  • Cover and secure every load with a tarp, net, or tie-downs. An uncovered load costs $10 more for a car, pickup, or trailer, and $25 for other vehicles.

Ann Street Landfill

Open to the public. Homeowners’ household garbage is free up to 4 cubic yards a week
