325 W Hanes Mill Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27105

Run by Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities.

What it takes

It’s the only place in Forsyth County that takes tires and appliances. The 3RC EnviroStation takes paint, electronics, used motor oil, some batteries, and household hazardous waste. The Overdale Yard Waste Facility and the Forum 52 Yard Waste Facility take brush.

Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.

Forsyth County rules

  • Forsyth County doesn’t run trash drop-off centers. Homes outside the towns have franchised curbside pickup, and Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities runs the landfills and yard waste sites.
  • The landfills and yard waste sites charge $37 a ton ($10 minimum), or a flat rate for small loads: $7 for a car, minivan, or half-ton SUV, and $15 for a half-ton pickup or van or a single-axle trailer up to 8 feet. They take Visa, Mastercard, Discover, debit cards, cash, and business checks, but not personal checks or American Express.
  • City of Winston-Salem homeowners can get a free landfill permit, good for a year, that covers two free trips to the landfills and yard waste sites for household loads in a half-ton or smaller vehicle or a single-axle trailer.
