What it takes

The Macon County MSW Landfill takes appliances and electronics. The Macon County MSW Landfill and the Highlands Transfer Station take mattresses and brush.

Macon County rules

  • Bagged household waste is free at Macon County’s sites. Businesses can’t leave waste at the convenience centers: it goes to the landfill in Franklin or the Highlands Transfer Station, which charge $72 a ton in Franklin and $84.50 a ton in Highlands, with a $5 minimum.
  • Every center takes household recycling (cardboard, #1 and #2 plastic bottles, bulk plastic, mixed paper, and cans) and alkaline and lithium batteries. Hand lithium batteries to the attendant.
