Watauga County convenience centers and dump hours

Northwest North Carolina, on Eastern time

Convenience centers are what most people call the dump. This page covers 10 convenience centers and the Watauga County Transfer Station. Each one’s hours are posted below, with the rules that apply.

What to do with tires, mattresses, paint, and more

Convenience centers

  • Watauga County’s 10 staffed convenience centers take only bagged household trash in the dumpsters, plus recycling: glass, flattened cardboard, plastics #1-7 with lids, and paper. Bulky items and anything that won’t fit in a standard trash bag go to the transfer station. Household batteries and compact fluorescent bulbs go in the bins at each attendant’s building.

Metal and appliances, tires, and mulch for residents are free. It doesn’t take liquids (paint included), large amounts of oil, insecticides, hazardous or toxic waste, or gas tanks.
