What it takes

It’s one of four Cheatham County convenience centers that take used motor oil. The Sam’s Creek Road Transfer Station takes tires, appliances, mattresses, and construction debris. The Sam’s Creek Road Convenience and Recycling Center takes some paint and batteries.

Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.

Cheatham County rules

  • To use any convenience center, you need a Cheatham County wheel tax sticker on your vehicle or proof that you own property in the county, usually a property tax statement.
  • Tarp any load in a trailer, any commercial or for-hire pickup load, and any pickup load higher than the bed. Lower loads must be held down so nothing blows out, and trash can lids must be on tight.
  • No site takes latex paint, brush, explosives, or hazardous materials.
  • Every center takes household glass and single-stream recycling: office paper, brown paper bags, paperboard, junk mail, phone books, newspaper, aluminum and tin or steel cans, cardboard, and #1 and #2 plastic bottles and containers. No food waste, film, plastic bags or wrap, or foam cups and containers.
  • The convenience centers take fluorescent bulbs on Tuesdays and Thursdays only.Cheatham County’s page says the Griffintown Road center takes fluorescent bulbs on Tuesdays and Thursdays only, but it lists that center as open only Saturday through Monday.
