The city calls it the Greenbrier transfer station
What it takes
It’s the only place in the City of Chesapeake that takes some paint, some electronics, some used motor oil, some batteries, and household hazardous waste. The SPSA Suffolk Transfer Station and Regional Landfill takes tires.

City of Chesapeake rules
- Chesapeake residents with proof of residency get 12 free drop-offs a year at SPSA’s Chesapeake Transfer Station; after that it’s $78 a ton, with a $20 minimum. The station takes no residential waste on Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday, when residents can use SPSA’s Suffolk transfer station instead.
- City trash customers can schedule bulk pickup at 757-382-2489 or online, by the day before their trash day: one household pile up to 4 by 4 by 10 feet a week, 12 a year, plus yard debris piles with no yearly limit. Keep the two piles apart.
- Since July 27, 2026, recycling goes in the trash bin with everything else, sorted later by SPSA. The city’s drop-off recycling sites stay open: plastics #1 and #2, cans, and mixed paper in one container, flattened cardboard in the other.
