Charlotte County rules
- The two mini-transfer and recycling facilities are for Charlotte County residents: bring a photo ID with your local address, or an ID and a utility bill or other proof of a county address (no P.O. boxes). Each resident gets 12 free visits a fiscal year (Oct. 1 to Sept. 30); recycling and hazardous waste don’t count. Limits a year: furniture and other refuse up to 18 cubic yards, and construction debris up to 6 cubic yards with cabinets broken down and nothing longer than 8 feet. No household garbage, business waste, electronics, or firearms and ammunition, and no trailers over 12 feet long or 6 feet wide.
- Little Gasparilla Island residents may use only the West Charlotte facility, at $10 a visit (Visa or Mastercard).
- Homes that pay the county’s sanitation fee get up to 4 cubic yards of bulky items and refuse a week at the curb, plus 10 bundles or bags of yard waste. Appliances (four times a year, free) and electronics are picked up by request: use the county’s online request form, or call Waste Management at 941-629-1106 (941-697-0012 in Englewood) two days ahead. Motor oil, oil filters, and car batteries go out on your collection day, 5 feet from the carts.
