What it takes

Highlands County’s other two recycling centers take the same items. The Highlands County Solid Waste Management Center takes tires, appliances, brush, and construction debris. The Highlands County Recycling Center takes paint, electronics, used motor oil, and household hazardous waste.

Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.

Highlands County rules

  • Highlands County has no curbside recycling. Residents, in town or out, bring clean recycling to the three attended drop-off sites during their posted hours: paper, plastic bottles and jugs, cans, and flattened cardboard in the blue bin, and glass in the white bin. No plastic bags.
  • Florida Waste Solutions collects garbage in unincorporated Highlands County, with yard waste and bulk items on alternate weeks, up to 2 cubic yards each; mattresses must be wrapped in plastic, and construction debris isn’t collected. Call 863-655-0005 for curbside pickup of appliances and up to six tires.
