What it takes

It’s the only place in Morgan County that takes tires, appliances, paint, electronics, construction debris, batteries, and some household hazardous waste.

Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.

Morgan County rules

  • Since July 1, 2026, the transfer station charges $59.26 a ton for residential garbage, rubbish, and bulky items ($74.14 commercial), $125 a ton for construction debris (trailers 10 feet or smaller, two trips a day, no commercial haulers or contractors), and $48.51 a ton for inert material at the inert landfill on the same property: yard debris, tree limbs, and other organic material. Metal, appliances, and paint are free. It also has a Goodwill drop-off.Morgan County’s solid waste page lists new fees effective July 1, 2026 at the top, but its transfer station section still shows the older ones ($56.44 a ton for residential garbage, $46.20 for inert material, $4.20 a car tire, $5.25 a car battery).
  • The transfer station doesn’t take flammable liquids or gases, gas tanks such as propane, animals, used oil, pesticides, or chemical waste.
  • Morgan County’s attended recycling center at the transfer station takes broken-down cardboard, glass, #1 and #2 plastics, and aluminum cans. Its other recycling center, on Newborn Road, keeps the same hours and takes cardboard; the county says it’s adding #1 and #2 plastics and glass there.Morgan County’s solid waste page says every compactor site has recycling boxes for cardboard, paper, and aluminum cans; its recycling page says those boxes are being removed, leaving recycling at the two recycling centers.
