What it takes
It’s one of three Whitfield County convenience centers that take appliances and brush. The Old Dixie Highway Convenience Center and Landfill takes paint, electronics, construction debris, and household hazardous waste.
Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.
Whitfield County rules
- The four staffed convenience centers take Whitfield County residents’ bagged household garbage free, up to 10 bags a trip; out-of-county visitors pay extra. Be out by 6 p.m. on weekdays and 3 p.m. on Saturday: big loads that can’t be unloaded quickly may be turned away.
- Bulky items such as mattresses, sofas, and bookshelves are taken at all four centers when there’s room: free at Old Dixie Highway, about $5 an item at the other three. Trailer and large pickup loads may be sent to the Old Dixie Highway landfill.
- Old Dixie Highway is also the authority’s landfill, where every vehicle crosses the scales. Construction and remodeling debris goes only there, at $46.25 a ton; single pieces, such as one door or window, may be taken at the other centers.
