Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.

Wilkes County rules

  • The landfill takes Wilkes County waste only and screens every load. It charges $85 a ton for trash, shingles, asbestos (double-bagged; call ahead), and commercial glass, $180 for an empty mobile home, or by the bag: 50 cents up to 20 gallons, $1 up to 40, $1.50 up to 60. Tires, appliances, recyclables, car batteries, motor oil, and antifreeze are free. North Carolina law requires a tarp on your load.
