What it takes
Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.
Beaufort County rules
- Beaufort County’s convenience centers need a solid waste pass, which only Beaufort County property owners can get, online. Attendants scan it at the gate, and each pass allows 3 visits a week, Sunday through Saturday. Renters get access through the property owner, who applies for the pass. Anyone in the county can bring recycling to the Shanklin and Bluffton centers.
- Trailers are allowed only at the Bluffton, Hilton Head, Shanklin, and St. Helena centers, and no bigger than 5 by 8 feet.
- Businesses and apartment complexes owned by businesses can’t use the centers; they hire a private hauler. Large items from those apartments can go to the Oakwood Landfill, 751 Strobhart Rd., Ridgeland.
