What it takes

It’s the only place in McMinn County that takes some paint, electronics, and household hazardous waste. The McMinn County Landfill takes tires and construction debris.

Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.

McMinn County rules

  • Every convenience center is open Monday through Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., and closed Sundays and holidays. The county doesn’t post where the centers are, so call 423-745-3244 for the nearest one.
  • The Athens Recycling Center takes hazardous waste from households only, not from businesses, schools, churches, medical offices, or contractors. An attendant must be there when you drop it off, containers must not leak, and they aren’t returned.
