What it takes

It’s the only place in McMinn County that takes tires and construction debris. The Athens Recycling Center takes some paint, electronics, and household hazardous waste.

Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.

McMinn County rules

  • Every convenience center is open Monday through Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., and closed Sundays and holidays. The county doesn’t post where the centers are, so call 423-745-3244 for the nearest one.
  • The landfill charges by weight: $38 a ton for household garbage and for demolition debris, with a $5 minimum. A load of household kitchen garbage up to 260 pounds is $5.
  • The landfill doesn’t take liquids (paint, solvents, or chemicals), asbestos, large logs or stumps, large construction debris, radioactive or explosive materials, medical waste, propane tanks or cylinders with regulators in place, or dead animals.
