At the Prince William County Landfill

Run by Prince William County Solid Waste Division.

What it takes

It’s the only place in Prince William County that takes paint, electronics, and household hazardous waste. The Prince William County Landfill and the Prince William County Compost Facility take tires, appliances, mattresses, brush, construction debris, used motor oil, and batteries.

Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.

Prince William County rules

  • Prince William County doesn’t collect trash at the curb. Residents haul it to the landfill, the Compost Facility, or a Saturday collection site, or hire a permitted private hauler.
  • Bring a Virginia driver’s license or ID with a Prince William County address, which is scanned at the scale house; a P.O. box or out-of-state license needs a county tax bill too, and the person on the ID has to be in the vehicle. Disposal is free for residents of the county and the towns of Dumfries, Occoquan, Haymarket, and Quantico. Manassas and Manassas Park residents pay $5 a trip and can’t use the hazardous waste or electronics program.
  • Recycling trailers around the county take paper, flattened cardboard, cans, and #1 and #2 plastic bottles and jugs, but no glass or plastic bags. Glass goes in the purple bins at the landfill, the Compost Facility, and a few other sites.
