What it takes
It’s the only place in Hernando County that takes tires and construction debris.
Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.
Hernando County rules
- Every Hernando County site takes Hernando County waste only. Show a driver’s license with a current Hernando County address, or an out-of-county license with a TRIM notice, utility bill, or deed. Staff don’t help unload, so bring help, and keep children and pets in the vehicle.
- Since June 1, 2026, the Main Landfill charges everything by weight, with no free allowance: 3.1 cents a pound ($62.47 a ton) for household garbage, 3.9 cents ($78.47 a ton) for construction and demolition debris, and 2.8 cents ($56.27 a ton) for yard waste. It takes all trailer sizes and commercial waste.
- Recycling and household hazardous waste are free at all three sites, as long as staff can see what they are: bring them in original containers, open bins, or clear bags, and keep plastic bags separate.
