What it takes

It’s the only place in Polk County that takes paint, electronics, used motor oil, batteries, and household hazardous waste. The North Central Transfer Station and the Northeast Landfill Customer Convenience Center take tires and brush. The North Central Transfer Station takes appliances and construction debris.

Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.

Polk County rules

  • No waste from outside Polk County is accepted without the county commission’s written approval.
  • County curbside customers can set out up to five extra bags of household waste four times a year, and furniture and appliances go out on a scheduled day once a month. Construction debris, tires, car parts, and hazardous waste are never picked up at the curb.
