Putnam County rules
- Everyone using the Central Landfill or the collection centers needs a driver’s license or photo ID and proof of residency in their own name (a tax bill, a license with the address, a utility bill, or a lease). Commercial loads pay commercial rates, whatever the vehicle. Cash and checks are taken everywhere, cards only at the Central Landfill.
- The Central Landfill charges residents $24 a ton and businesses $38; tires are $210 a ton. Homes that pay the solid waste assessment get 3,000 pounds of construction debris and 5,000 pounds of yard trash a year free there; limbs over 4 inches across and 6 feet long aren’t covered.
- Each week, the county takes up to 5 gallons each of household hazardous waste, used motor oil, and gas, and 10 fluorescent bulbs.
