What it takes

It’s the only place in Floyd County that takes tires, mattresses, brush, and construction debris. The Rome-Floyd Recycling Center takes appliances.

Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.

Floyd County rules

  • At the Walker Mountain Landfill, garbage and construction debris cost $10 up to 250 pounds, $15 up to 500, $20 up to 750, $30 up to 1,000, and $40 up to 2,000 pounds, then $46 a ton. Leaves, limbs, and other inert material cost $3 up to 250 pounds and $21 a ton past 2,000. It takes waste from Floyd County only, and no bagged household garbage from individuals; that goes to the remote sites.
  • The landfill doesn’t take hazardous waste, asbestos, tires on rims, liquids, garbage mixed with yard trimmings, batteries, or appliances with Freon.
  • Floyd County Public Works picks up limbs, trunks, and shrubs up to 12 feet long at the road by appointment: free under 3 cubic yards once every 90 days, $100 for 3 to 10 cubic yards, $150 for more. Call 706-236-2495. Not for City of Rome residents.
