Convenience centers are what most people call the dump. This page covers four convenience centers, the Gaston County Landfill, and three recycling centers. Each one’s posted hours are below, with the rules that apply.

Before you go

The New Hope Recycling Center is being rebuilt at 235 Lake Wylie Road in Belmont. The county expected it to open in early to mid October.

Convenience centers

The convenience sites don’t take cash for trash: pay with GarbCards, $5 each from local stores. Up to 10 bags of household garbage take one card, a pickup or trailer up to 10 feet of trash or yard waste takes two, and a truck and trailer takes four. Each equal-size bag of sorted recycling earns a $5 credit toward bagged garbage. Recycling is free.
The convenience sites don’t take construction or demolition debris. Take it to the landfill.

Landfills

The landfill charges $46 a ton for trash and construction debris and $26 a ton for yard waste, with a half-ton minimum. Uncovered or unsecured loads pay $200 more.
